Ikelite ETTL for Canon
I decided to start this thread rather than add to the 20D thread.
Wow! I just looked at Ike's website on the ettl circuitry and it looks very impressive! It does much more than I would have expected. It looks like it not only accomplishes TTL but it includes Flash Exposure Compensation FEC and allows manual.
The page has lots of good explanation which of course only leads me to more questions.
1) Can you still use the manual controllers with a DS125 when you are in manual mode to get 10 power levels? I suppose you could use either the manual controller or the 4? power levels on the strobe itself?
2) Is the ETTL unit powered by a seperate battery or from the hotshoe? What kind of battery is required?
3) I assume that the FEC function was created because the drebel didn't have its own FEC. The Nikon D70 has its own FEC on the camera. I know you are busy getting these ETTLs out the door, then retrofitting old drebels and modifying the system for the 10D and now the 20D, but what is your current thinking on iTTL? Do you think you will give the D70 the same FEC control or will you add functionality to use the camera's own FEC? FWIW: The housing FEC control looks very easy to use if it gives the same functionality as the in-camera FEC without causing any conflicts. The only potential disadvantage would be that the XEIF info would not be accurate--but then we don't have that now with the manual controller.
Looks GREEEEAT! Can't wait to retrofit my D70 to a similur system. I'm glad I picked Ikelite.
