Sigma 12-24 in Sea&Sea??

  1. Sigma 12-24 in Sea&Sea??

I just purchased a Sigma 12-24 DG HSM for my Canon D60 (I know it's 'old', but so am I).

I am trying to figure out if I can use my Sea&Sea DX60 housing with it. Camera store says when they contacted Sea&Sea they said NO.

Anyone have this lens in Sea&Sea DSLR housing. If so, what port/ring/zoom gear?

  2. I don't have the lens myself, but if you do get it setup, please do post as I have the same camera / housing combination.

    Tom

  3. I used to shoot with Sigma 12-24 and D60. You can use the lens easily. You need the 40mm port extender for the dome. On the other hand you can't get zoom gear from S&S but I managed to make it from one dedicated for Canon 17-40mm. I mean a friend of mine, blacksmith did it.

Anyway I gave up 12-24 for the 14mm lens which is much much better.

  4. I bought a sea and sea NX fisheye dome on ebay and lens fits inside. Since lens length is fixed (zooms internal to outer lens case) it seems to work. No extender or +3 +4 manify filter needed.

Tried it in swimming pool this afternoon and pictures turned out great! Now all I need to figure out is the correct zoom gear and see how it works in open water :)

  5. A quick upload shot taken in Belize last week.

Sigma 12-24 w/Canon D60 in Sea&Sea with just fisheye dome.

  6. Nice shot!! Great exposure, but I was wondering- is that a vertical shot or is it cropped?

  7. It's verticle. No cropping.

Only problem is I couldn't find zoom ring to fit housing before I left. Will keep searching.

  8. David I made myself a Sigma 12-24 EX zoom gear for Aquatica Housing with a sewing machine strap like a picture below, It´s an alternative.

  9. Mauricio,

That is brilliant - congratulations from one engineer who salutes your ingenuity!

Can you help us out by posting the exact model or part number for what we would call the sewing maching _belt_ that you used?

    Thank you!

    James

  10. Thanks James

It’s from Germany and there are many numbers and letters in the belt. I don’t know how the part number is exactly.

    HTD 276-3M and 331AG

    regards

    Mauricio

  11. You got a sewing machine belt from Germany to Brazil? Please provide any more details you have - how did you find that particular belt?

    Cheers

    James

  12. No, I went to a store in Brazil with my lens and gear and I tested many belts until to fit !!!! I think that the brand is 3M.

  13. Look at this link http://www.correias.com.br/3m.htm . 3M is not a brand it´s a belt step. The model of this belt is HTD 276-3M . The belt circumference is 276mm

  14. Thanks for the info!

Now all I have to do is find a shop that sells sewing machine belts.

The distance between the gear and zoom ring of the 12-24 is so 'thin' that the belt may be the only thing that works.
