PI Frogfish with hydroids?

6 posts
  1. Recently did trip to PI - Atlantis liveaboard. Saw lot of very nice macro critters and such.

Attached pic is Painted Frogfish - This one was bit unusual - had several anemone or hydroids attached to his skin (not sure which).

Have never seen that before on any fish.

  2. Interesting - I've not seen that before either.

Do you remember the site? I'm driving down there later this afternoon and might go searching!

  3. Hi,
do you have more pics from this fish?
Looks like the hydroids grow only on the purple spots?
Could this be a kind of calcium algae on the fish, and the hydroids sit on them?
    Strange...
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang

  4. Sorry no other pics - Hydroids appear to be only on the calcium (white) deposits?

Dont have site - it was one of the many dives sites we did on the Atlantis Azores liveaboard - it was a nite dive.
