  1. Olympus C-4000 v.s. C-4040?

    Hi all

I just joined wetpixel. While I am pretty experienced with U/W film photography (Nikonos), I just bought an Ikelite Housing 6130.1 to get my feet wet (literally) in U/W digital photography.

I am considering buying either a used C-4040 or a new C-4000 camera.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two cameras for U/W photography when compared to each other?

That I have found out, the C-4000 seems more advanced (My Mode) but has a somewhat slower lens and no LCD on top (which I could use with a 4040 in my clear housing). But I'm sure there is more to it.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. imho, you only need 1 my mode and the c4040 does have one custom setting (remembers up to 12 pre-programmed settings)available in the All Reset options. IOW, the camera turns on with everything remembered that you told it to. For me, that's plenty. The LCD on the top of a c4040 is full of important info, such as flash setting, images left, spot + macro setting, and battery status. There's even more info on it, but not as critical to monitor. Not sure how the c4000 presents that info.

You may be lucky and find a refurbished c4040 on the Oly America web site found on EBay. If you do, it comes with a warranty.

The c4000 was introduced after the c4040, but I'm not sure it could have been considered an advancement or upgrade.

BTW, I've enjoyed my 6130.1 and c4040 for the last couple of years.
