Filter, for strobes?

  1. Filter, for strobes?

I am new to underwater photography, i was recomended to buy a ur pro colour correcting filter, for blue water for my camera lens. Now have been told that i need a filter or difuser for the strobes ? any help would much welcome. Thanks

  2. Craig Jones is the one who's developed the technique of putting a complementary filter on the strobe to cancel the color offset of the filter on the lens for strobe light. I've tried it with cc30g on the strobes and cc30m on the lens. I think removing some green from the background water does make a more striking image. Do a search on craig and filter on these forums.

  3. Thanks herbko, for the help.

  4. Most folks give up on using the UR PRO filters almost immediately, certainly when they get an external strobe.

No one uses them, in any of the photo credits I have ever seen.

In clear bright tropical waters, you don't need any filter in the top 5-10 feet. From 10-30 feet, a filter might be useful, with no flash - just trying to shoot ambient.

But 99.9999999% of all shots, are done with no filter, and plenty of strobe, to put the colors back, down 30-130 feet...

This gives the nice bluish backgrounds, with the subject standing out more.
