  1. Problem of my DS-50 and 8080 housing...

I find some problem with my DS-50 and ikelite 8080 housing. :)

I have now a DS-50 ss connected to the 8080 ikelite housing via a TTL syn cord. I switched on the camera and turned on the DS-50, and I found that the flash indicator of the camera shown "no flash". I go to the mode menu and check for the flash mode and I've already set it to slow 1 and external flash only. But the camera still shown the "no flash" indicator. Also when I pressed the flash mode botton at the side of my camera, only "no flash" can be chosen and any other choice is dimmed. But the most confusing is that the DS-50 will still flash once I press the shutter. Is it OK for these to happen??

Also, when I set my camera to a slower shutter speed(let said 1sec or slower), I found that the DS-50 flashed once after I pressed the shutter and then it FLASH AGAIN a little while before the shot is finished(both flash's intensity is more or less the same, so I don't think its a pre-flash!!)!

I'm wondering if there is anything wrong with the DS-50, or the TTL circuit in my housing?? Please help!!

  2. I'm not familiar with your camera re what should appear in display. But I do know it's a preflash camera i.e. it fires a small test flash and then the main flash to take the picture.

My suggestion is to follow the instructions below and then test the camera in a dimly lit room.

Did it take the picture? Is it well lit?

  3. First question is do you have the new 5-conductor @#4103.51 sync cord? Sounds like you are getting no power to the camera housing from the strobe. The product number is stamped on a small tag on the cord............

  4. Thanks to u guys reply, Ive found out the reason for these malfunction!!

It's 'cos I've splashed some flesh water to the TTL-hotshoe circuit in the housing and once I let the water to dry out, it work perfectly again!! Thanks god!! :)

  5. You realize these situations put ol' ike somewhere between hemorrhoids, hernia and heart attack............?

    Sorry about that!

But now I really know why people keep saying that Ikelite's products are well-built, robust and durable(even it got wet)!!
