  1. Nikon D2X

Was able to try out the new D2X at Photokina last wekend. What a beast!!! Unbelievable fast focusing and up to 5 pics a second. Clear viewfinder. Professionals were shooting wireless directly to laptops and beamers.

This cam will be a big hit, though heavy price tag...

Heared from Subal that they got verbal confirmation from Nikon Rep that same body as D2H for which housing is almost ready. They are going to test this housing for the D2X in January for final release of the housing somewhere in early spring next year and optional with new large viewfinder... will be selling my S2 and Subal housing next year immediately for this one!!! :)

  2. Hi Juerg,

    Wow, that's good news.

Just curious, but what does the D2X have that the S2 doesn't have - that makes you prefer it for underwater use?

    Cheers

    James

  3. D2X

The Nikon D/D1 Series and Canon EOS1D Series of cameras quites simply offer better AF as will the D2X, than the S2Pro! I've used an S2 for a year but am switching to Canon and although the S2Pro (and similar designs) are excellent underwater cameras, they simply aren't as good in terms of AF - I've owned F5s, F100s, F80s, D1X and S2Pro and now EOS1DS - the F5/100 & D1X were all good but I find the EOS1DS is better (on land anyway - we've no vis. here in North Wales at the moment!). Depends on what you shoot as to just how important this is of course. And the price tag will be high.

And Seacam also have a D2H/X housing in preparation.

  4. James,

you are right, in UW use it is probably not much better than the S2, besides the higher resolution / wider dynamic range and the better and faster AF. On the other side the flash will not work with TTL as the S2 does. I think the usage topside will be more advantageous. That image processing through Wi-Fi function was impressive.
