Photoshop Camera Raw: saving the image file

  1. Photoshop Camera Raw: saving the image file

What happens after you make the image adjustments and select OK. Is the original .ORF file changed permanently, or can you get back to the original raw image file?

After doing the edits and selecting OK, it then opens the .ORF file in photoshop proper. Now, would you typically apply other adjustments and then save it as TIFF, JPG or whatever.

I know these are simple questions, but I am a little uncertain about the workflow.

  2. Hi Rick,

Check out the article here on Wetpixel about how to develop a digital RAW file. It's in the library here - Feature Articles -> Wiseman beginner column. The article was mostly written by Craig Jones.

  3. The original RAW files are unchanged but PS remembers your RAW conversion settings. It keeps that information either in a PS database file or in "sidecar" files depending on preferences you set. The advantage of sidecar files is that they travel with the RAW files as you move them around (on different machines for example). The disadvantage is they litter the folders with extra stuff.
