  1. ribbon and osprey reef conditions in january

    hi all,

i might be going to the great barrier reef in january, and have the opportunity of going on a liveaboard that goes to the ribbon and osprey reefs.

would anyone know what the weather and sea conditions are likely to be at that time? is there any monsoon condition (high winds rains etc)?

    thanks for the help :)

    /paul

  2. About reef conditions

You will be there in their summer, I hear the weather is really great then. We went to Aus. and stayed in Cairns and Port Douglas during the previous end June, begin July, this is their winter. The air temps were in the 80's and the water temps north of Lizard Island was over 80, south to the Ribbons around Agincourt reef, coldest was 77F. Sea conditions were excellent. It was quite calm and we had two days of mirror flat ocean which the liveaboard said they get normally only in their summer. We saw many kinds of sharks, and also Minke whales. On the reef there were allot of feather stars and the corals were in great shape from Lizard Island north to Osprey.

We are headed back to Cairns this coming summer for a few days then on to a liveaboard in New Guinea :)
