  1. Everglades Sunrise

Thought I'd start getting my D70 used to the water...

A sunrise in Everglades National Park yesterday.

We don't need to stinking underwater housing!

A behind-the-scenes shot of what my buddy and I did to get these shots. Fun fun fun!

Of course, I had to show my 5050 some love so I took her diving that same day...

I love it when I get a good shot even before I get on the dive boat.

This is from Molly's launch ramp (aka boat ramp at Quiescence Dive Shop in Key Largo).

That's Capt. John's QIII dive boat (aka Laz's second home) in the background.

  2. Hey Laz. Beautiful shots. Especially the over under. Glad to see you back in business after the hurricanes.

  3. Laz, I also really like the split level shot of the right-way-up up-side-down jellyfish. I rarely shoot split levels with strobes - but this one works really well. I must try it next time!

  4. Thanks for the nice comments, guys.

Alex - Since I can't really use a ND filter with my 5050, I find the best way to get acceptable exposures on my splits is to setup the exposure for the sky and then fill in the bottom half using the strobe. I'll do this until I can afford a stobe that'll fill in the sky.

Another plus from using a strobe (shooting from above the water) is that you can introduce those beautiful light patterns on the ground similar to what you see in a pool at night (this light pattern needs a name --> Swimgly Lights -- there!).
