Nikon d70 housing
I am not sure what kinda housing to get for my Nikon d70. I am looking for a housing I can use to take surf photos. I know that the housing will take a beating in bigger surf, so I wondering about what type I should get. Any idea?

Ikelite ... see the following for example of rough treatment.

And here for the D70 version.
Thanks, that helps a lot. I was worried about the beating it would take but if it can take a reef it should survive.
The Ike housing that survived the reef (pretty impressive!) has a fixed lens port. The D70 housing has the standard Ike port retention snaps, which I've had pop open during easy roll entrys with the housing pretty well shielded from the entry.
Not sure of the size of surf you'll be shooting in, but I would NOT trust my Ike MD housing in heavy surf.
I've had excellent performance in turbulent water with my old Aquatica A3 / A4 housings, which have threaded ports, and attach very solidly. No chance of them being displaced from getting dumped by the curl.
Modern bayonet port attachments are pretty good, but I'd still worry a bit in real rough and tumble surf. I'm not sure what housing for the D70 would have a screw-type port? Maybe someone else on the board knows.
Of course, only you can tell what extremes of surf you're going to be in, and if a "standard" bayonet port will be secure enough. If I were shooting in the surf at Sunset Beach, I would pass on digital and shoot my old film housings. If it was a big portion of my work, I'd call Blake and see if I could beg a D70 housing with the old, screw-type port.
All the best, James
The older design of ike port snaps, were more prone to user error, since they were push in, to activate. If they got bumped, they could pop open. The new design will not pop open, once correctly closed, since they are pull to activate.

I dont have plans to be taking on anything quite as bad a sunset but could find myself in some head to double overhead surf (5-10ft faces). The d70 is my only option so that why i want something that I wont have an issue with.
We've discussed this a couple of times before on WetPixel, and there is a link to a more in depth discussion below... I personally would be very leery of taking a dive housing with compression o-rings in to anything much bigger than 2-3 foot waves.

The Nexus Housing has a screw in port, it is an aluminum body that is pretty robust.
It will take the same ports that can be used with the F4 Pro Housing or the D100 housing.
