Ikelite zoom sleeve with the Nikon 18-70

  1. Ikelite zoom sleeve with the Nikon 18-70

I just returned home after very long Trans-Atlantic flight with a new Ike's housing for the D70.

I started to test the new equipment and I have problem attaching this sleeve (Ike #5509.28 ), I tried to use the spring clamp but it’s caused the sleeve to bow into an oval shape and stuck into the dome port inside cylinder.

I read this pervious thread but I didn't understand what exactly to do.

If I understood right, the #5509.28 spring clamps suppose to be lower profile, but the sleeve still bow...

    Thank's for any help, Arnon

  2. Both the spring assembly and the sleeve of the #5509.28 are unique low profile parts. So if either is not low profile, it will bow the sleeve.

One way to check both parts is to position the sleeve tang in the mating slot. With the tang bottomed in the slot there should only be a very slight clearance between the top of the slot and the inside of the sleeve.

    Thank's Peter,

When I put the spring assembly on the 18-70DX lens and then position the sleeve tang in the mating slot the sleeve immediately start bow and of course there is no clearance between the 2 items.

  4. Alto, the test I described should be done without the lens. All you need are the sleeve and the black assembly to see if both parts are low profile.

  5. Arnon, I had a similar problem.....the plastic holder of the spring was dragging on the port...causing a lot of drag

I did a very, very light sanding of that "knuckle" to knock off the edge and it's worked perfect ever since

  6. Thanks for your help,

I solved the problem by sanding the sleeve tangs and spring assembly slots until the sleeve moves freely on the slots.

I assumes that for some reason I didn't got the low profile parts but since its work now I'm good with it as it his.

Tomorrow morning I'll take it all underwater and after that I could change my signature ... :D
