Help with green streaks

  1. Help with green streaks

All of a sudden my images are bad - mainly green streaks, with some pink in some of them. I have tried different cards, and it appears to be the camera. Tried all different settings on the camera from manual, to program mode. Has anyone seen anything like this? I suspect a shutter problem, but it sounds good, and I forced it open as if I was going to clean it, and all seemed oky. The shutter speed seems to vary as I change the settings.

It is a Fujifilm S2. Not flooded or any evidence of external damage.

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Linda,

That looks like a sensor or processor problem. It looks like your camera needs a trip in to Fuji for repair.

    Sincerely,

    James Wiseman

  3. Thanks for responding - that's what I was afraid the answer would be. Darn! And it is 2 months beyond the warranty, of course.

  4. I hope your situation turns out better than mine. I had a similar problem with my S2. The verdict from the Fuji people in Singapore was that the entire sensor assembly needed to be replaced - at a cost of about 75% of what a new body would be.

No question that these are great cameras, but to expect them to be as robust as a Nikon F100 or equivalent would appear to be unrealistic.

  5. OUCH! Thanks Robert, that's not very encouraging but gives me a reality check. I'll post the response I get from Fuji.

    Regards, Linda

  6. Just FYI, I got the repair estimate from FUJI - $1291 - it was the CCD. The repair has a 6-month warranty, versus buying a new camera with a one-year warranty. But the new ones sure haven't come down very much, and now I'm very leery about buying a used one. Plus, like Bruce, I now feel that I need a backup. I don't want to be on a big trip and have it die. It's only money ........ :)

  7. Ouch.

What I always ask myself in situations like this is:

"If you can't take a joke, why did you ever take up underwater photography?" :?

  8. This brings up another question...

How long is the warrantee on the original sensor?

  9. The same as the Camera?!?

Why would it be different, at least I havent heard a flees whisper about it.

    cheers

  10. OK, let me rephrase that.

I do not have the paperwork handy...

How long was the warrantee on the camera?

I am also now wondering about coverage of this failure under the DAN insurance. If we are covered for dropping and breaking it, are we also covered for "electronic failure"?

Hadn't thought about any of this until I saw the price tag on the sensor!

  11. Yes, I believe it is covered under DAN insurance. I asked them about this once. Pretty nice as you don't even have to pay the water damage deductible.

    Cheers

    James

  12. Awesome news!

    Thanks James.

  13. The original warranty is one year; the warranty on the repair is 6 months. Just FYI, and don't know how it will work for anyone else, but I whined a bit that the camera was only 14 months old, and FUJI was VERY NICE and covered the repair under the warranty. I lucked out!

Also, regarding insurance, I have the DAN (H2O) insurance and did call them before Fuji agreed to cover it under the warranty. They said this wasn't covered since it was considered "wear and tear" and not caused by a "specific action" like dropping it or a flood. And I can't bring myself to lie about what happened ...... so it wasn't covered.
