I just used my d70 with inon 220 strobes for the first time. I noticed a delay between when i press the shutter, and when the camera fired. Did i have the settings wrong? I was using all manual settings for camera and strobes. Do i need to disable the preflash?
I've never experienced a delay after the camera achieves focus.

d70 shutter delay
I was shooting fast moving seals, so was the delay just the focus waiting to lock? should i just have been in C mode?
That could be the delay you are experiencing. In AF-S, the camera won't fire until focus is achieved. AF-C might help with fast moving subjects....but be aware that in AF-C, the camera will shoot even if it's out of focus....would be worth trying out next time
I've only used AF-S underwater, but many have success with AF-C.

Not sure what Housing you have, if it's the Ike, can you see the focus assist lamp coming on? If it's metal, take the back off and do a 1/2 press to check it.
I was having a slow response with mine until I figured out that was the problem. You can turn it off in the menu.

d70 shutter delay
I'm using a nexus housing and inon 220 strobes. My shots were all in focus, so maybe that means it was a focus lock issue, i was wonderor ing if it could have been a preflash issue, or something else
I experienced the same type of problem, and switched to AF-C. Camera fired perfectly then. The delay is the focus. I haven't experienced any out of focus problems with AF-C
Cudos to Ike. I was in Fiji and experience a port dome leak. E-mailed Ike and had a new port within 4 days. Saved the trip.
Make sure you are using the central sensor and if need be, lock it in place. Reasons for using the central focus sensor include it's ability to deal with subjects that have either horizontal or vertical detail and it's ability to work in low light environments.
