Underwater Drones

  1. Hi all,

I was just wondering whether any of you had experience with underwater drones and if so what the benefits or drawbacks from using them are?

    Thanks,

  2. Unlike landscape photography, the main issue i expect for UW photography is the distance to subject. You'd want to be as close as possible to the subject because water absorbs your strobe light so much.

They are very useful for exploration projects (scientific & oil) though

  3. You mean ROVs?

Lots of exploration and research uses, particularly at deeper depth. I know folks in the Great Lakes who use them when searching for new wrecks.

Historically, you had to send a diver down to answer the “rock or wreck” question when you got a hit on the sidescan. Now you send the robot, if you have one.
