  1. Ike Lite Port Security

    Hello all!

I just took my S2Pro out for it's first dive in an Ike lite 6652 Housing this weekend. What I did not notice until I was putting it together on the boat was some play (up/down) on the port. It fits tight left and right under the 2 port locking clips but it did wiggle up and down. I took the camera out of the housing and dove it empty to about 50 feet. No leaks! Great! Put the camera back in and took my first underwater photographs. Now can someone please tell me if that movement is normal? It seem like a good bump could pop open the port seal and flood. I tried 2 different ports and 2 sets of o-rings but still had this up/down movement. Are the clips just to keep it in place an pressure hold the seal? Anyway, attached is a shot from my first attempt at U/W photography

Side note: I spent almost a year looking for an underwater housing. Ike lite answered every email and question I had. Talk about great customer service, I had not spent a penny yet but I felt like they were there for me.

  2. A small amount of waggle is normal....it's an o-ring seal, not a bayonet or screw type which feel more secure....

While the movement can be unnerving at first, it's not going anywhere :D

  3. Yep, that's normal. Since the housing only has two port snaps, they form sort of a hing. If you lightly grease the oring, and make sure the snaps are locked down when you dive you should not have any problems. I did shore dives in Kona and Puako with this housing and never had any trouble.

The trouble can happen in the rinse tank as there isn't any pressure holding the port on. If Ike would add a 3rd snap-lock he wouldn't have this perceived problem. Ike doesn't think it's a problem though, so I don't think he'll change it...:-)

    Cheers

    James

  4. Peace of mind!

Thanks guys! That was quick too. I will sleep and dive easy now!
