What can you tell me about Papau
I'm planning a trip PNG and would like to know about the area. My plans are to dive a liveaboard "Star Dancer" and then stay at Walindi for a few days as well.
Thanks,

First off, it's spelled Papua, but that could apply to either West Papua (which is part of Indonesia) or Papua New Guinea, which isn't.
The diving at Kimbe Bay and the other locations that the Star Dancer does is OTS (off-the-scale), and you'll like staying at Walindo too. But be sure and take your anti-malarials.

We did the Star Dancer with 5 days in Walindi 1st and a week in Loloata after. I would recommend the Star Dancer depending on the itinery. Peter Hughes screwed us and we stayed in Kimbe Bay for the 1st 2 days so they could accommodate 2 people from another trip, When we inquired about this they lied and claimed it was the normal itinerary. This was done even though we were told while on the ship that they were extending 2 peoples trip. The diving was good but not great in part because we never got to the Wetu Islands-weather related- and spent a lot of time diving the same sites. The crew was outstanding and I would recommend them without hesitation. The chance to see something unusual always exists-we saw a pod of Orca and 2 Sailfish- and can turn the trip into a special one.
I would consider Loloata at the end of the trip rather then Walindi. Nothing against Walindi but the variety if you include Loloata adds to the trip.
Anothe rthing to consider is the Golden Dawn if you haven't booked Star Dancer already. It gets rave reviews from everyone we spoke to. Enjoy your trip.
