Saga Magic Ball Macro Wide Lens....opinions

  1. Hey all,

Has anyone used the subject lens?  what was your experience like with it.  Would you recommend purchasing it?  I cant really find any info out there on this lens, maybe thats a sign?

  2. I used the Saga magic ball with the Olympus EM-1 II and the Panasonic 30mm F/2.8 macro with no additional closeup lens for the first attached photo. If you are still shooting M43 they recommend the 60mm macro with the Saga +5 C/U lens and the 14-42 zoom with a +10 C/U lens. Saga has a ring that allows you to mount the 67mm threaded magic ball to the C/U lens. The image appears upside down and backwards in the viewfinder like the old view cameras. It has fairly shallow DOF when used with a C/U lens and you end up with an image which at times can be quite unique sort of like a circular fisheye lens. Some will love it and others will not.

Saga has made a bunch of unique tools for viewing the underwater world including the Magic Tube and the Saga Zoom Effects Filter which is also fun to use. The zoom filter has a softer transition from in focus to out of focus, I attached two of those image second and third as well.
