  1. Lenses for a Canon 1Ds Mark II

    Hello All,

Just bought a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II from B&H to be delivered Friday. I plan to put this in a Subal CD1D housing for UW photography. This is my first digital Canon SLR so I am starting from scratch on lenses. The camera will come with the wide angle-telephoto 28-135 mm f3.5-5.6 IS. I need something for macro, i.e., Telephoto EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro AF and maybe a true wide angle/telephoto. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  2. Congrats on the 1Ds Mark II! With its full frame (no crop) sensor you could go with the Canon EF 20mm prime lens. This would give you the nearly the same coverage as the venerable Nikonos 15mm U/W lens. For Macro the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro is a great lens with 1:1 magnification. These two would be a good start. You could then look at getting a zoom for general U/W work like the 17-40mm.

FWIW: I use the 15mm FE (due to 1.3 crop of my DSLR and generally terrible visibility I dive in), 17-40mm and 100mm Macro w/ 1D Mark II.

  3. Its quite a long thread, but you might want to look through this one:

Good stats on taking a 1DS2 underwater. I'd go for the 15mm fisheye evertime on full frame, although of course lens choice will depend on where you dive.
