  1. Nikon 17-55mm vs. 17-35mm

Is any one using the 17-55mm Nikkor? Any advantages or disadvantages over the 17-35mm?? Are there ports out there to accomodate this lens. I know it's big $$, but is it sharp? I just doing a little system research before I make any decisions about housings & ports.

    Cheers,

    Sieg

  2. Recently got the zoom gear for the 17-55 from Subal. Spent last three days shooting the lens. Conditions were really better for macro but I want to try the lens. Didn't take any wide angle shots. All were close-ups using a +2 dioptor as recommend by Subal.

Advantages are that you can shoot a subject about half the size of what you can with the 17-35. Seems at least as sharp as the 17-35. The wide zoom is actually a quite usable field of view. It will make a good backup to the 12-24. It is a great lens for small and medium fish portraiture.

After using this lens for awhile I sold my 17-35. For topside I love this lens.

Will try to post a few pics. later.

  3. Interesting, Dave,

Any lens that can make you sell a 17-35mm AFS, must be rather special, and its sharpness will be crucial as Nikon packs more pixels into its 1.5 crop sensors.

Looking forward to seeing some images,

    Alex

  4. We were using both the 17-35 and the 28-70 in our business. Got the 17-55

last week and we will be selling the both the other lens on eBay next week.

Only problem is, Ikelite dosen't have a port for the 17-55 yet.
