Marelux MX-A1 housing review

8 posts
  1. My review of the new Marelux housing for Sony A1 is now posted in the new issue of UWPMAG.com a free PDF download. Marelux is the first new aluminum housing manufacture I can remember since Nauticam entered the market. Marelux has recognized the 2020's decline of the DSLR market and has chosen to offer mirrorless housings for Canon, Nikon and Sony full frame cameras. They also two housings and monitor housings for video cameras. They also offer adapters for Nauticam and Sea & Sea extensions and ports. Macro image with the Sony A1, 90mm macro, SMC-1, two Backscatter MF-1 flashes and the Marelux housing.

  2. The housing produces an amazing image, it is so sharp and beautiful :) Thanks for sharing the great review as always Phil.

  3. A revised version of this review including the UWTechnics.com TTL-converter for Marelux is now posted on the Wetpixel home page.

Marelux has also announced today a 140mm dome  port for use with the Canon and Nikon 8-15mm fisheye zooms with a dome shade which can be easily be removed underwater to prevent vignetting at the 8mm circular fisheye end of the lens.

  4. Has anyone on this forum purchased a Marelux housing yet?

  5. JayceeB - I bought one and have it in hand.  I'll post more about it when I get it underwater but first impression is that this is a really beautiful housing that is carefully engineered and manufactured.

  6. I just received one for the Sony A1 and it appears the issues with the drive mode and focus mode dials that Phil wrote about have not been resolved. Waiting to hear back from the retailer on next steps.

  7. An update on my above post. All the controls on the housing appear to be working . The issue with the driver and focus controls was that you need to remove the rubber eyepiece around the EVF to get proper alignment of the camera in the housing. I was initially unable to find the owners manual on the Marelux site when I was putting things together. The process is outlined in that doc. I would like to thank @JayceeB and @Phil Rudin for pointing me to the docs and the solution.  It would be helpful if Marelux included a QR code that points to the docs.

  8. Photo of the Marelux A7 IV housing with the Nauticam to Marelux 20 adapter, 20mm Nauticam extension and Nauticam 140mm dome with Canon 8-15mm fisheye zoom.

Images taken with the Sony A7 IV in the Marelux MX-a7iv housing with the Sony 14mm F/1.8 and the Zen Underwater 230mm port with 30mm extension using the Nauticam to Marelux 20 adapter. Images of moving water in Pisgah National Forest, Brevard, North Carolina.
