  1. Interesting. Any idea where the GH5s slots in in terms of dynamic range and high ISO noise?

I wrote a whole set on that after running the cameras side by side for 4 days

When you look at video noise however you need to look at 12 bits RAW not 14 as I did as the camera does not read 14 bits precision in video

Unfortunately I did not do that so I am waiting for someone to send me some dark frames shot at 12 bits to be 100% sure

In general the GH5S has more read noise in terms of stops at 14 bits but it also has strong in camera noise reduction also in vlog which is apparent as details disappear at high ISO

Panasonic since the S series and GH5M2 has now completely disabled noise reduction in vlog but kept it on other photo styles so it is not possible to do completely balanced comparison.

In terms of using VLOG underwater same applies to land the only MFT cameras where is worth doing are the GH5S and the GH6 due to how the implementation is done

On the other camera the additional stop overexposures avoid noise but also compromises dynamic range with the net result that VLOG is not different from other photo style like CineD and should really only be used to match other vlog cameras

  3. Well... if the GH5MkII is really a better option than the GH6 under ISO2000, I would argue that covers the majority of situations you find underwater.

So if you can live with 4k60p downsampled from 5.1k rather than 5.7k60p (I imagine the sharpness difference is not so great), and you don't need binned 4k120 (again, probably a very niche use underwater), the GH5 Mk II may be the way to go. With the big added benefit that it fits inside existing GH5 housings.

Owning a GH5 and housing already, there's much better value in just upgrading your body to a GH5 Mk II rather than spending money on a body+housing upgrade to a GH6.  The benefits of the GH6 seem questionable for underwater use.

I am not planning to invest in a GH6 housing because I take also photos.

The GH6 has 800 Mbps 60fps All intra 422 and a 200mbps 422 long gop in addition to the 420 200 mbps long gop that the GH5M2 has

I have used the 200 mbps on land and it looks good so I would use that also underwater and I think it will be ok for most cases but underwater perhaps it will be a bit stretched if you don't get it right in camera

The GH5M2 is a good upgrade from the GH5 in terms of noise and even in vlog it works well up to 1600 so it cover most situations really
