Usb fast charging

4 posts
  1. I have just bought an Anchor video light which comes with a Usb charger, the chargers that I use for iPhone and iPad have fast charging facility which makes a big difference to charge times i.e. less than half the time.

Does anyone know if connecting the Anchor supplied Usb charger to the Usb fast charger will result in a quicker charge than connecting to a standard Usb socket?

  2. Without knowing the specs it's hard to say.  An iPhone standard USB charger delivers about 1A it's rated at 5W, I would guess that the charger for a dive light battery would be rated for higher current to achieve reasonable charge times.  Which light did you buy?  Those lights appear to use 18650 batteries and the optimum charge current for those appears to be about 0.5 - 0.7C where C is the capacity in mA-hr.  You might be able to charge at higher currents but it will reduce the cycle life of your battery.

  3. Hi Chris

I bought an Anchor Cruit 5k video light. The USB wall charger that we use is 30w and has a max output of 2.4A per socket (3 USB sockets)

    thanks

The charge current is probably set by your charger - they usually use a constant current charge followed a constant voltage charge so as long as you USB wall charger has enough capacity it will charge at the same rate no matter what USB wall pack you use.
