I bought an Ikelite housing for a Olympus TG6 for my travel camera and want to add strobes. I am pretty sure that I am going with the Inon D200. I have read hours about making my own cables and have a couple of questions. What can be used for the connection with an Ikelite housing?
The housing one I think I could do with just a couple of orings around the cable and stick in it. The stobe end I know needs to be a bit more precise so it aligns and fires. I will probably go with this cable https://www.i-fiberoptics.com/fiber-detail-asahi.php?id=3355&sum=166
Don't Ikelite housings for the Olympus TG6 already have the connections for fiber optic cables? The Ikelite housings I've seen for the TG6 have fiber optic connections on top of the housing above the camera's built-in strobe. Are you sure you need to buy an adapter to get the cable plug ends?
There's a whole thread specifically addressing DIY fiber optic cables. The posts in the thread actually have links to the parts necessary to build cables.
You already have fibre optic connectors up top of the housing and they take Sea and Sea connections. You don't need the first linked adapter that is for the Olympus PT-059 housing.
As for the strobe connector end you could buy the linked backscatter item, it screws to the INON strobe and you plug in a S&S style bush. You can also buy the original connector ends from INON if the cable you are using is the same size as the commercial cables. It is reusable and well made. This has the advantage of the cable being securely attached. https://www.housingcamera.com/id4748-inon-l-connector.html
On my housing I have L type S&S bushes on the housing end of the cable and the linked L connector above on the other. The S&S connectors become unplugged quite easily and as I don't attach the cables to my arms only one end comes out and I don't lose the cable.
Thanks guys. I wasn't sure what style of end I needed. I thought it was S&S but wasn't sure. With all the info on here I could find anything. This is my first optic strobe. Now to spend the money.
