My Fuji S2 Pro Housing

  1. I thought It was time to share my new housing. Even though I’m not quite finish I’ve pressure test it down to 190 ft. with no problems and I’m sure it will go much deeper. It’s a bit on the heavy side it was to tight for a 6" tube so I used a 8" and had a lot of room to work inside it.

I don’t mind the size it’s neutral underwater and I like being able to let go of it and it stays right

their. I can let go of the housing when I’m gearing up on my beach dives and I don’t have to worry that it going to sink. I build all of my housings like tanks. They have 3/4" and 1 inch end plates. The wall thickness is ½ inch with a 1/4 inch o-rings. On this housing I’m using Ikelite’s extended dome port. Normally I use my own design but for speed I thought I’d try Ike’s.

This set up works well underwater, I’ve had it on four dives but I’m still in my evaluation stage.

I’m very impressed with the image size and it’s ability to color correct the images in Photo Shop with very little effort. I am a little perplex on how to white balance the camera underwater.

I’ve been trying with very little success. It seems after I white balance and the camera tell you that you have complete a new balance. I monitor the next few Images on the LCD and they look great. But when I view my thumb nails at home their all green or blue in color just like I hadn’t

white balance at all. The good part is in Photo shop using auto or levels the images are stunningly color correct. This is my forth digital camera I’ve owned and never had such pleasing

results. I’ve just installed a bulk head adapter from Aquatica and I’ll be able to use my 105 flash in TTL mode on my next dive. Anyway I’ll cut it off here I’m sure I could go on for ever.

If any one has any question please don’t hesitate to ask.

  2. Maybe you should attach a scooter underneath there and then you'd look like Bob Talbot...:)

J/K Very cool housing Marc! I can't believe you made that thing yourself! So where are the pix?

  3. That RULES! You should sell them! Great work....

  4. That is very impressive. How much would you charge to craft one for me??

  5. I am indeed impressed. Looks like an awful lot of parts though. If you had to pay yourself to assemble it, you probably couldn't afford you.

I haven't had the pleasure of taking my D100 underwater yet, so I haven't experienced the white balance issue as you described.

Personally, I would just set it on a specific mode, e.g. shade or cloudy, and shoot in RAW format. You can then adjust the white balance and exposure on the raw information through your viewer and into PS. Your raw information is retained in its original form, so it is possible to start over if you feel like it.

  6. I've been working on Marc to shoot RAW as well - so far (if memory serves) he has only been shooting JPEG - where the camera sets the white balance and imbeds it in the shot.

So try the RAW Marc - you'll like it! If nothing else, take ONE RAW shot and then try clicking on the different white balance choices in the Hyperutility EX

  7. Just a quick up date, I have figured out why I was not able to white balance. It seems when I mount my camera in my housing I always set it to custom white balance pre-set number one.

That way I can make my first white balance faster. This does not work, The camera will say it has completed successfully but it has not change it’s previous setting. You must first toggle the cameras white balancing options all the way threw its options and back to the preset option before it will over ride it’s previous stored white balance.

As far as shooting in the Raw mode I have but I find it to time consuming . I take about 80 to 100 images on a single dive that last 1 ½ hours. Processing all those images takes to long not to mention all the extra room you need to store them. With my white balance problem solve I’m please with my results in a compressed mode.

I did plan on making a few extra housings for sale, but I have to many obligation at this time to consider a third job, be married , ride my Wing, and go diving. I will how ever be selling my housing and I’ll be making a new housing when my Kodak Pro 14 N arrives.
