Inon Strobe Types

7 posts
  1. Hi,

When I search for Inon strobes online there seems to be 4 different types/versions of their strobes and I see some listed as type 1, 2, or 4. Could someone please explain to me the differences between each of the 4 types? I can’t seem to find this out online (perhaps I’m just not looking hard enough!). More specifically I’m interested in Inon D200 and Z240 strobes and I’m after one that I can use in both manual mode and TTL/STTL mode.

    Thank you,

    Atom65

  2. Z-240 Type 2 improved compatibility with Nikon cameras in fiber optic mode

Z-240 Type 3 replaced Xenon modeling light with a stronger LED

Z-240 Type 4 replaced the fiber optic triggering sensor with a more sensitive one to improve operation with LED triggers.

So long as you're using the camera pop-up flash to trigger the strobes, Type 2 is fine. If you buy a UW-Technics or Turtle trigger, then you need Type 4.

  3. The INON strobes listed are of course older models and now discontinued, so only available second hand.  You might find the D200 a bit under powered for wide angle work on an APS-C sensor camera.  Z-240 would be OK, but a a newer Z330 better.

Thanks Chris - I might look at starting out with 2 Z240s or 1 Z330 then.

  6.  A few years ago I replaced my Sea&Sea strobes with Inon Z240's and last year replaced those with Inon Z330's, which have turned out to be excellent strobes, I am most pleased with the quality of their light.

  7. Besides the difference in the type number, the big difference berween the D200 and the Z240 is that the former only allows optical triggerand the later allows both optical and electrical triggering.
The z240 is also slightly stronger than the D200
