Late July/early August I was on the same boat (M/V Shearwater) that Eric Cheng posted his trip report from using a custom Ikelite housing with limited controls for my new Nikon D100. Still learning what color modes and settings I personally like. That said, the camera is more than capable of professional results. No underwater D-TTL (yet...) but detail and shooting freedom is easily on par with the Fuji S2 and Canon D60. I chose the D100 because I had Nikon glass and liked the smaller size of the D100 versus the Fuji S2, plus one single lithium battery that lasts forever.See attached sample photo. A friend who has one BUILT his own housing in a week before the trip! Had soem limitations, but he made photos with it, too. Email any questions to dhaas@megsinet.net.

Just got a D100. so far nice camera. Haven't decided if I will take it UW but I would be interested in any thoughts you had and in how the housing worked. Do you know if Ike is going to make a regular housing for the camera?
-
Dave,
I believe Ikelite will develop a new back at some point in the future. Mine had controls to adjust the "mode" button, top left, the flash and EV controls, On/Off and trigger plus front and rear command dials. Once you learn the camrea and set up any menu driven functions this was really all I needed. Due to the original MD size housing back I couldn't see the complete screen, but easily enough to determine if I got a keeper. James Wiseman at www.reefpix.org will be posting a couple of reduced images I sent him in the next day or so. James Fuji S2 is a worthy competitor, but I'm very happy with D100.
Email me any questions directly if I can be of help.

I was on the trip with Eric. Just wondering what sites you dove on your trip? Was it the trip the week after ours with Andy?

-
Yahsemtough,
Andy Sallmon went out on another trip the week before we did. We were aboard 7/28-8/3. Did the same sites you did, Mt. Olympus, a Blue Hole and especially El Dorado for the two shark feeds Jimmy did. Our trip was through a shop in Battle Creek, MI a friend owns and included the Walker's Cay shark dive, too. Unbelievable amount of sharks on this dive. They swim around long after the "chumsicle" is gone. Probably about an hour or so. Only problem was slightly greener water than El Dorado.
All in all a great photo opportunity. Jimmy is a maniac video shooter who knows how to set up good photo possibilities. Then it's up to you!
I'll be posting some more images fom this trip soon.

I have dove the areas you mentioned in the Bahamas. Good shark action that I was impressed with. But I just got back from Cocos and the difference is night and day. Cocos is the most unbelievable diving I've ever seen.

If you want to see people do everything they can to make your trip the best they are the ones.
Jimmy loves diving as much as anyone I know. A good friend now.
I did a shark expedition in January also and we did the rodeo and the Bull sharks then. Good trip as Jim Watt, Brandon Cole, Walt Stearns and Chris and Monique Fallows were on board
Great group of people!
The spot we seemed to have our luck in July was Jew fish Mountain right next to El Dorado. For the big sharks that is.
The Sugar Wreck was a great little night dive also.
