Lightning Set-Up for Outex Housing

2 posts
  1. Hello everyone!

This is just my second post here, so be kind but also hard on my consideration ahah

I've used an Outex housing paired with Sonya7rII + Sigma 15 fisheye + adaptor since January. As light source i'm using Two flexible arms + 2 Godox WL8P led lights.                                                                  I shot in freshwaters only, to document amphibians and crustacean life in Italy. It was pretty fun initially and it gave me pleasant results but iìve seen the limits of my budget set up soon.

Why Outex? lightweight, small and flexible for camera models.

Led lights don't suit well for very low light situation (power limits) and for dynamic scenes (freezing problems) and i've strictly limited to totally static subjects and scenes. That's why i've achieved a total of 3-4 "good" shot in a whole year and a pile of unusable, even for an IG Post, ones.

So, the idea is to find some light solution: UW strobes/flashes compatible with the Outex housing.

Outex has a tripod + data cover that would allow me to mount the fexible arms/ dual flash rig and a synch cable for flashes. Does a dual synch cable for dual strobes exist for this solution?

Have anyone tried this before? I think that a fiber optic cable would work only with an integrated flash or an integrated light source right? I'm a total dumb with DIY solutions, so if some buy-and-try solution it would be the best solution maybe.

    Thanks in advance,

    Iacopo

  2. As far as I can tell, the Outex data kit gives you an adapter which you can use to pass a cable of your choice from inside the bag to outside. If you get strobes with electric sync, you can use a spare bulkhead from another housing to convert the hot-shoe connector into a Nikonos plug or whatever, something like this, and then use a regular dual sync cord (example) to go to your strobes. You might even be able to integrate the bulkhead into the Outex adapter, so that the 5-pin connector is on the outside.

Alternatively, if your strobes support optical triggering, you could mount a small flash or LED trigger on your camera, and run fiber optics to the outside.

Me, I wouldn't dare to submerge either setup if it was my camera.
