Which arms connect Inon strobes to Sealux housing?

  1. Which arms connect Inon strobes to Sealux housing?

    Hi List

I am about to get Inon Z220s strobes for a Sealux CD70 housing for the Nikon D70. Are there any arm systems besides Sealux own that do not require changing the base on the Sealux?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I found this on the seaoptics webpage:

    * Please note that the Z220S is totally identical except the focusing light and laser target light have been removed. The Z220S is therefore cheaper by a reasonable amount and certainly worth considering if you do not need these 2 items.

Personally, I'd get the Z220 as you'll probably be able to get the focusing light to work. But it's your call.

    Cheers

    James

  3. I'm not familiar with how the Sealux D70 connectors are wired, so this might not be much help, but please see info below describing D70 - Z-220/Z-220S compatibility with Nexus D70 housing. Chances are if the wires are a straight pass through, the Focus Light and Target Laser will not work.

Inon Strobe - Nexus D70 Compatibility*

There are two versions of the Nexus D70 housing. Each version has different compatibility with Inon strobes.

The difference is the D70 housing’s “camera connector” cable, linking the camera’s hot shoe to the housing’s bulkhead connector.

System type 1: Camera connector cable name: “NCC-TM”

This is a straight, direct connection of all five connector wires, between the camera and housing.

    For Z-220 / Z-220S:

-Do not install the Magnet into the Camera Type Switch.

-Manually triggered flash possible, with “Sea & Sea Sync Cord N” sync cable, but only through housing’s Main Bulkhead Connector, not Sub Bulkhead..

-Z-220 Focus Light and Target Laser do not operate with this connector cable type.

System type 2: Camera connector cable name: “NCC-V2”

This connection has a diode with some circuitry between the camera and the housing.

    For Z-220 / Z-220S:

-Install the Magnet into the Camera Type Switch.

-Manually triggered flash possible, with “Sea & Sea Sync Cord N” sync cable connected to either Main or Sub Bulkhead Connectors.

-It is possible to operate the Z-220 Focus Light and Target Laser with this camera connector type.

-Regardless of whether or not the camera’s power set to ON or OFF, and regardless of half-shutter press, with the Z-220 connected to housing via a “Sea & Sea Sync Cord N” sync cable, the Focus Light and/or Target Laser will be activated merely by turning the Z-220 Main Switch to the A-WIRE position (Focus Light and Target Laser activation), or X-WIRE position (Target Laser only activation).

Note: For Focus Light only activation, use A-WIRE position and close the Target Laser Cover Switch to block the Target Laser

    * Compatibility based partially on actual testing and partially on reports from users. There may be undocumented differences between camera/housing systems, which result in difference to above information. Inon does not warranty compatibility with all camera/housing systems.

  4. Peter, beside Nexus wiring, you've asked about strobe arms with Sealux, didn't you? :D :

I have Z220 mounted to my Sealux housing (10D) with ULCS arms.

The regular "BA-TG" from ULCS fits directly onto the T-Plates of the Sealux housing/handles.

Just one arm segment for the photo. Like the Sealux arm you should take minimum 2 segments in my opinion. :-)

    regards,

    Julian

  5. Thanks guys.

The Z220 will work, but apparently MUST only be fitted onto the Non-TTL port (an extra option on this housing.) Andrew of Ocean Optics, the UK importer of this strobe, warned that attaching the Z220 onto the TTL port could damage the camera. The only additional functionality it offers for this camera over the cheaper Z220s is the focus light (I have not tested it in the water to establish its practical usefulness.)

I have purchased the more expensive INON arms from Ocean Optics as a way of thanking them for their technical support. They work exactly the same and are available with the same fittings as the UCLS arms.
