Sea&Sea MDX 850 Housing issue.

  1. I am looking for someone that owns a Sea&Sea 850 housing and would be willing to send me the measurements

of the extension spring on the inside of rear housing cover that is attached to the Photo Review / Playback Lever arm .

Sea & Sea no longer has this part and is not willing to share the size of the spring. Mine keeps falling off and it needs to be replaced.

Cant Believe Sea & Sea does not have a schematic showing the proper spring size or they aren’t willing to share that info.  Have owned 3x S&S housings.

    This will be my last.

  2. Just want to clarify that you still have the spring but perhaps the hook ends are not holding so well??  - I would suggest measuring yourself, only need to be accurate to a mm or two and trying a website like this:

    https://www.thespringstore.com/catalogsearch/advanced/result/?es_od_mm[from]=6&es_od_mm[to]=8&es_fl_mm[from]=10&es_fl_mm[to]=20&es_rt_mm[from]=&es_rt_mm[to]=&es_ld_mm[from]=&es_ld_mm[to]=&es_dt_mm[from]=&es_dt_mm[to]=&es_it_mm[from]=&es_it_mm[to]=&es_wd_mm[from]=&es_wd_mm[to]=&es_mt=&ship_type=&search=stock-extension-springs&unit_measure=me

just enter your measurements and see what pops up, the prices are relatively low so you could order 2 or 3 that seem closest and try them out.

  3. The photo also shows some screw heads, so one can measure with a caliper the diameter of a screw head and the length of the spring body. Next, one can measure the diameter of the real screw head and from it calculate the length of the spring body.

Then, one can buy a pack of small springs from a store like Home Depot and hope one of them does the job: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Spring-Assortment-Kit-84-Pack-13554/203133714

    Good luck!

  4. if the spring keeps falling off, you can try to put new bends in the ends to make it more secure.  should work.  I'm guessing its the end towards the bottom of the photo that keeps falling off?

Also you could tie a loop of thin elastic cord into those holes to replace the spring.
