Monitor vs Monitor/Recorder

  1. Thinking about going with an external monitor on my A7RIV/Nauticam Housing.  Do mostly macro/ wreck, eyes are getting worn out so think this might be the way to go for me.  Never used one so don't want to waste money if not feasible.  Know Nauticam will cost more and am good with that, it is quality stuff. Know it will be adding resistance in the water but that is the cost of doing business. Help me decide,  thoughts ?

I have considered this option as a one stop shop for video and photos however the HDMI connection has an additional lag to real time

On the A1 that reads much faster than your camera this is 130ms on yours will be more

So there will be a significant lag and this may be a problem for photos when things move fast

A viewfinder may be a better option especially if video is not in your scope

  3. The monitor you need decent closeup vision to see it clearly.  With a viewfinder you have diopter adjustment so you can adjust it to your eyes unless you have bad astigmatism so you are not dealng with optical aids.  Natively your camera veiewfinder is set for distant vision typically so matches whatever you have to see your way around underwater.    It probably depends somewhat on what your vision issue is and what solutions you are comfortable with for your distant vision when diving.

  4. FWIW, I love my monitor for video work.  I wouldn't go without one now.
