Sony A1 autofocus tracking in video mode

  1. Greetings,

On a Sony A1, how can autofocus tracking be achieved in video mode? Given that the tracking is triggered with the touch pad, how can it be done behind a housing? Thanks in advance!

No you need to use the touch screen that is not available

The next question is in which scenarios are you thinking of using tracking? For wide angle is not necessary

Are you trying to shoot some macro?

Thinking more of a way around the touch screen lock-in. For macro, perhaps through manual focus, focus assist, and other features (zebra, focus magnification, etc.)

I opened a ticket with Sony and suggested a way to trigger tracking from the controls

They told me that this has been passed to their voice of customer team and will be considered in a future software upgrade

Now when this is happening is unclear to me

In order for tracking to work you need to have the camera out of manual focus and set to S-AF or C-AF on the lever

Glad to hear the push is coming from several (hopefully many) fronts. Hopefully Sony makes it happen.
