South Atlantic - Saint Helena - teaser or short version

11 posts
  1. Hi,

id like to share some fast moving pictures from my last trip to the South Atlantic, to an island named Saint Helena. Saint Helena is mainly known as the last exil of Napoleon Bonaparte. The  marine environment supports a diverse aray of marine life. Nearly 780 marine species have so far been recorded from St. Helena, at least 50 are endemic. Its also known as whaleshark hotspot, especially the whalesharks themselves :D  Above the water line you can find step cliffs, surreal red and darkgrey desert landscapes, highlands covered with flax and fern trees and fortresses built into the cliffs should protect against freeing Napoleon. A longer version will  go public the next days.

    Enjoy!

  2. Fantastic video! You've just added another place to visit on my list

I loved the 0'49-0'50 canon transition!

Thank you, happy you like it!

Its really cool diving at Saint Helena. Prior my trip i searched Youtube for Helena videos and only found clips from rocks and butterflyfish, therefore i expected not much and became really positive surprised. Also topside worth to spend time with hiking and visiting spots.

The longer version is more focused on underwater shots.

  4. Fantastic images as usual. You chose a very unique destination. Beautiful.

I'm waiting for the long version because I can't enjoy them enough with these quick edits ;)

    What's about water temperature?

    Thank you mich Davide!

o yeah....quick edits...:D I wanted to create a counterpart to the long version, which includes scenes i didn´t use in the long version, like the car rides and some different underwater scenes.

The water temp was 25 C, viz +25 to +35, but i depends very much on the surge. It can drop to just a few meters too

  6. The scene with the manta rays, mobulae or whatever the hell they are called, filmed from above on the sand is stunning!

Thanks Davidee! Its a Mobula. That scene is a bit longer in the long version (and much longer unedited) We had awesome Mobula encounters. They were real players and were swimming  from one diver to the next when the were alone. One did this for 40min. Then a second ray came in and picked him up like saying "i guess thats enough buddy, come on we have to go"

  8. Beautiful!  I really appreciated the timing transitions between slow - fast- and normal.  That was very well done and complimented the wonderful imagery.  Thank you for sharing this.
