Z240 magnet button

2 posts
  1. I was out diving this weekend and the magnet button one of my strobes popped up and now it won’t seem to push back down sufficiently to allow me to lock it down?

I haven’t used the strobes for a few months so they have been safely packed away upstairs (after usual post dive soak and clean down from the last time). Any suggestions for how to free this up?

They are fairly simple just a spring to push them back out and a latching mechanism in the plastic button to hold them in .  If it won't lock in perhaps the latch may have worn and the button needs replacing.  As you push it in and turn a pin follows a channel, schematically it's like this:

When the spring pushes the pin or tab upwards it can't move left or right and needs to be pushed down to turn it, It quite a shallow vertical section and if the corner wears off or similar damage ti can no longer stop the pin moving and it pops up.  Either that or something like a broken piece of magnet or debris it stopping the button pushing in.

This link discusses how to remove the button:

Try taking it out and you may be able to see what the problem is.  You can order replacement buttons fro your dealer.
