I am selling a pair of Ikelite 161 strobes. The strobes were purchased new in 2016, which is the date stamped on the NiMH battery packs. Each strobe includes an Ikelite diffuser, a charger for NiMH the battery pack and a protective cover for the part of the battery pack that mates to the strobe which is useful if you are alternating between battery packs. If you buy one or both of these strobes you will have to buy either a 1" ($25) or 1.25" ($30) ball mount to connect the strobe to your arm system. You will also need a sync cable to connect the strobe(s) to your housing. And if you wish to use the strobes on TTL with a digital camera you will also need the appropriate Ikelite digital converter for your camera system. I am asking for $500 dollars apiece if you want to buy one strobe. If you want to both two strobes ($1000), I will include one of Ikelite's dual strobe TTL sync cables (new $160).
I also have one used Ikelite digital converter which enables TTL shooting with Nikon digital cameras. It has the Ikelite bulkhead fitting to connect to the your housing and can be used a dual strobe TTL sync cable to give you full TTL shooting with both strobes together. This is an older style converter on which changing the setting from TTL to manual is very difficult. It is set to TTL now. But if you want to shoot on manual strobe, all you need to do is to change the rotary power switch on the strobe from the TTL setting to the manual power setting you want. If you are shooting with two strobes, both need to be set to the manual power setting you want for each. And when you want to go back to TTL, then set the rotary power switch on each strobe back to the TTL setting. Ikelite sells the newer version of the digital converter for Nikon for $350. If you are buying both strobes, I will sell you this digital converter for $150. Alone $225.
Ikelite's equivalent strobe is now the DS 160 II which sells for $995. For only $155 more you can have a two strobe system with the dual strobe sync cable and digital converter and two battery pack chargers.. The equivalent system new from Ikelite would cost you $2500.
Because of their weight the prices do not include shipping costs.
I used both of these strobes on a two month trip to Bali in September and October of 2022 and they functioned flawlessly. I shoot on TTL with all lenses from fisheye to super-macro. If you have any questions about these strobes, please write to me at divegypsy@gmail.com.
