Backscatter Mini Flash Accessories

  1. I recently purchased 2 MF2 strobes, snoot, IR filter, color filters, and remote muck stick. The snoot also comes with 2 aperture cards. How are you organizing this mess of accessories underwater? In addition, the snoot has a lanyard cable which isn't long enough to reach the back of the strobe. The filter holder has a lanyard cable which does reach the back of the strobe. The snoot also needs the two aperture cards attached with their lanyards. The IR filter and color filters have to be stored somewhere. Then what happens if I want to take the snoot off, where do I safely put it? If I could give any product feedback, it would be to find a way to securely store all these items without having a mess of lanyard strings everywhere and accessories flopping around.

I've been watching product videos on YouTube. One thing I did pick up was a rubber band around the snoot so that the aperture cards could be tucked away. While this keeps the card from flopping around, it's still part of a dragon's nest of lanyard strings.

Any other tips out there? Pics would help too! How do you organize the mess?

  2. I clip a mesh bag with a drawstring to my BCD that's big enough to hold the snoot. I can remove it if desired but for the most part I leave it attached for most dives. I wrap the lanyard around the handle of the clamp that attaches the miniflash to the housing or just bundle it under a rubberband.

I have just purchased a pair of MF2's with snoot so I am struggling with the same organizational conundrum. Did you adopt the mesh bag or come up with a unique method for all the extras? I don't like to have too many items hanging off of me so have been eyeing dive shorts with pockets to go over the wetsuit.

To solve the dangling aperture card, I put a hair band around the snoot which I can use to secure it when not in use:

I bought a bag of 1-inch orings since I wanted to replace the ones on my arms. I put one around the ball mount and secured the snoot lanyard to it.

Then I put another hair band around the end of the battery and if I take the snoot off, I can stuff it there when not in use. This keeps it from flopping around in front of my camera or the flash.

I've done several dives like this, and it's worked out well.

  5. I clip the muck stick to one of the ball clamps, it's just high enough that it doesn't drag around. If i want to use it, I easily transfer over the snoot strobe,  unplug the optical cable, screw in the light sensor, and shoot remote. I still haven't solved what to do with the black filter for remote shooting. One option is not take it and set the wired strobe to minimum power. My daughter bought me all the color filters for father's day, and I've yet to take them on a dive, so I haven't solved how best to store them.
