Retro Pro stopped working with Supercharger (?)

4 posts
  1. Just spend 10 days diving in Raja Ampat, now out of the water for a couple of days before joining a liveaboard in Komodo.

On day 7 one of my superchargers stopped working with one of my Retra Pro strobes. I have an extra supercharger, tried that - no joy. The strobe works without the supercharger fine, but with the supercharger the light (on the back of the strobe) won't come on in either "test" or any of the other modes.

The particular supercharger works on another strobe, so that doesn't seem to be the issue (and I mentioned the strobe itself works without the supercharger).

If anyone has any thoughts or guidance pls let me know. This isn't critical (as I mentioned, the strobe still works - I just have to swap batteries more frequently w/out the supercharger).

  2. Sounds very odd. Have you tried swapping over the supercharger lids between your two superchargers to see if one of the contacts is causing the issue?

Oskar usually sees posts about the Retra strobes and responds quickly. But maybe worth dropping him an email?

  3. Hi

we haven’t had a case of strobe not powering up with supercharger due to any internal hardware/firmware issue so I will presume this is not the issue.

When testing please make sure that you wait 5 seconds in batt/test mode before moving the dial to any other position.

The most common issue is either contacts on the supercharger are bent or damaged in another way, please check those carefully and also try with different battery compartment caps to find if that is the problem.

The other common issue is that batteries get dents due to falling down and have an increased diameter and don’t fit well inside the strobe compartment. A distinct sound should be heard when dropping down a battery, if muffled that can be a problem.

Let us know if anything works.

I had a similar issue which was resolved when with a small screwdriver I unscrewed and rescrewed the electronic circuit of the supercharger on. Try this to check if it's not a contact issue
