Acquired an old, small, YS-30 which works as a slave or via sync cord, but is not designed with a fiber optic cable receiver. Has anyone ever jury-rigged such a thing, or know of an after market item? I'm strictly FOC and would like to use it as a dedicated strobe for macro.

FOC adapter for YS-30?

You might be able to get it to work by using one of the stick-on S&S fibre otic cable connectors over the strobe sensor and run the cable back to your housing. Whether this will work or not will depend on how sensitive the strobe sensor is and how bright your trigger is. An onboard or accessory flash is more likely to work than an LED trigger. Likewise manual triggering is more likely to work well than TTL. A good quality 613 core fibre optic cable will also help. There is a post on this forum about DIY fibre optic cable making which may help.

Thanks, Chris, I'll try it!

The YS-30 is a little odd in that it has 2 optical slave sensors. So you may have to use different sensors based upon manual / ttl mode. I only use wired sync cable with my YS-30 so am unclear on the optical slave sensor behavior.
It is easy to make a S&S style optical connector by cutting a cross section from a suitable elcheapo ball point pen barrel and glueing the ring onto the face of the strobe. You may have to destroy a few pens as you experiment.
