First UW Photos with D70!

  1. First UW Photos with D70!

I took my D70 and credit card, and went to Backscatter and bought a housing this morning. I bought the SEA & SEA housing, a port and gears so I can switch to manual focus, and am using my Ikelite 100s strobe.

After a short "how to" by the Backscatter staff, I put my drysuit on and took the D70 diving. It was great! My fears about shooting the D70 through the tiny viewfinder were put to rest as I could see fine through the viewfinder underwater. I shot all manual except auto-focus. All controls were placed well (I could reach them) and all functions were available.

I've uploaded two images to my webhost. Links below. I'm very excited with the D70 underwater (and above) and can't wait to go diving again!

  3. Very nice!

How did you like the Sea & Sea housing for the D70? Did you consider other housings too? What were the deciding factors?

  4. Good stuff Kathy! I like the anemone too.

    Cheers

  5. Thank you for the compliments.

Karl: I only used my big strobe yesterday. When I go next I'll have my DS50 strobe with the slave sensor also. It seems that having the strobe correctly set up is more important wih the digital setup than film for getting good color saturation.

SeaDogDiver: I chose the SEA & SEA housing after much thought, advice and discussion with other D70 shooters using Ikelite and S&S housings. I originally was leaning heavily towards Ikelite since I use an Ikelite housing for my Nikon F2 and have all the ports and stuff. Both housings are equally good in quality, availability of controls and ergonomics. But, my S.O. has the big S&S port necessary for super wide-angle and the extension rings etc... for using a 105 micro lens. And he has the lenses! So I went with the SEA & SEA.

When I saw the anemone I was thrilled. Pink is my color you know. If you're ever diving in Monterey and see a bright pink tank stop to say hello. :-)
