I got my UK-Germany D60 housing yesterday -- very sweet machined metal, unbelievably small and light for the size of the camera it takes. About right for the price tag I suppose!
My first impression of it is very good. Except:
The wide-angle port fits my 16-35L lens just fine, but after attaching the zoom ring adapter to the lens I find the teeth of that and the zoom control don't find each other, regardless of which way around the adapter is attached to the lens. Either the teeth of the adapter are too far forward, or too far back, to meet the teeth of the zoom control, depending on which way around the adapter is mounted. I suppose this is because the setup was really designed for the old 17-35 and this lens is just slightly different in size.
I've already emailed the distributor about this, but anyone have a bright idea for a fix in case UK-G can't get me a new ring before I leave for Australia? I'm thinking the local Tap Plastics might be able to make me something appropriate to the task.
I also got the Canon flash housing; it's basically just a metal tube with the appropriate connections. Looks pretty nice. A test hookup shows it works just fine, e-ttl and all, though there are zero controls for the flash once it's in there. You have to turn the power on before you seal it up. Anyone know how well a 550EX utilizes batteries if you just leave it on for a while? Once it's charged does it use much to stay charged?
I'm using a friend's pool to test dive it this weekend. Very exciting! I've been waiting to take this underwater for -- well, since I got my D30 nearly two years ago!
