  1. Macro with Kodak ProSLRn

At the Middle Grounds at the Coronados, I did a shallow macro dive using the Nikkor 105mm. On a full frame camera, the 105 is a great lens for fish portraits, not just teeny weeny stuff. There was a lot of natural light, even at f22 @ 1/125th, so I lowered the black point on the fish portraits to get a dark background:

Here is a blenny in front of a filter feeding cucumber:

And a soft coral with polyps open for feeding:

And lastly, a baby garibaldi - extremely skittish:

  2. James,

VERY nice shots. I really like the first Garibaldi (I'm partial to verticals), but I think most people would prefer the second image as more of the fish is seen. Good detail in the sea hare, all of my pictures of them look like brown blobs. :-)

Congrats on getting the juvenile Garibaldi to pose for you!

  3. Thanks Kathy. I had to crop in on the Garibaldi shot as I could never get close. For a damsel, they sure are skittish!

    Cheers

    James

  4. Looking good! Glad to see it is in the water. Alex
