Ikelite 100A + D70

  1. Ikelite 100A + D70

I am F80 + Ikelite housing + 2 Ikelite 100A strobes user thinking about moving to D70 + Ikelite housing.

I hope to be able to use current ports, arms, sync cord and slave sensor. Will it make sense to keep the strobes?

I know I will not get them to work in TTL, but will they work reasonably in manual mode? I understand that the manual controller works only with DS strobes. That leaves me with full and 1/2 power settings on the strobes plus beam angle control and aperture settings on the camera.

    Will it be usable?

  2. Hi,

Believe it or not, I would say that you could get by with full and half power, as long as you also have a diffuser handy. On my last trip, I dove Ike 200's and only ever used half or full but I was shooting an ISO100 camera.

    Cheers

    James

  3. When I shot James's ex-d100 in his ex-DX100 housing I used my ex-100A strobe and (broken) Ikelite strobe arm with no problems. A single 100A is powerful enough to give you f16 at about 24 inches strobe/subject distance, which equates to between 1:3 and 1:2 using the nikon 105mm on the d100.

  4. Thank you. That's good news.

It means that I can get by buying D70 body and housing only. I hope 18-35 will do for a while too.
