  1. First U/W Pictures with D70

    Hello,

I have been willing to post some UW pictures for comments for some time - although being relatively new to this forum.

The following links to some pictures I took while in Grand Cayman in September 2004 with my then new D70 outfit.

I would very much appreciate your comments on how I could make them better the next time around.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  2. I just chose a couple of examples and commented on them. In general there is nothign to say that is wrong with them, but there are things I have suggested to make them better. Mostly shoot upwards for wide angle :( and try moving the strobe for different lighting on macro

shoot upwards more .. get more blue variation into the sea tone. And look for seascapes like this that either emphasise the dramatic wall (not hard to find at babylon) or have a bit more colour, something more than just the gorgonian.

But shoot more upwards is the key, sometimes you will feel stupid at how upwards you are shooting, try to get some sun in there !

Nice crisp image, nothign wrong with it, maybe a little closer would be nice. Try moving your one strobe around to create different lighting effects, Alex will testify to me loving the one strobe !

    Moon-Jelly-(_DSC1158).jpg

I have never tried black and white jellies .. but i love that shot, it has beautiful grey tones .. was this done in camera or made black and white afterwards ?

great snap i know how hard these guys can be to get, shame that the focus is on the green algae leafey things.

again shoot upwards and try to get the entire subject in it will look more pleasing to the eye.

  3. Giles,

Many thanks you for your comments.

As for the wall picture, I have to say I had a lot of problems with the blue of the see. When I converted it to a web picture (I originally had it in RAW), the blue turned deep magenta :( and it was a struggle to get it to anything that looked like blue.

The jelly was originally in Color, but I took the picture without a strobe, and it turned out much better in B&W. It was converted in PS using the channel mixer.

I will definitely try to look up when I take future pictures - although when I think about it, it has to be the hardest thing to do with the big, bulky housing!

    Cheers,

    Marc

  4. Maybe cropping the blenny in a vertical fashion would look better. You have enough megapixels in the picture to do that. Nice shot.
