  1. nikon D70 housing

    Hello,

I would like to buy the Nikon D70 housing from Ikelite. How do you like this housing? Do you think is good idea to wait the TTL cirquitry from Ikelite? They plan to have it in a few months. I'm not sure which port should i choose for the set lens nikorr 18-70. Could you help me?

  2. Hi petr,

I too would be interested to hear from other readers what the main and sub-command dial to housing interface is like on the D70 housing. I have been using the Ike N80 housing and find that the lever/command dial interface is difficult for me to use. Looking at the pictures on Ike's site, it looks the D70 housing might have a housing dial to camera command dial interface that should be easier and quicker to use. I'd love it if someone could help me here too. Unfortunately, no reteail store in Australia stock the Ike housings for me to go and take a look for myself.

Petr, I can tell you that you need the 5503.55 dome for the 18-70 lens (check http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/2port_nikon.html for other lens/dome combinations). I have heard positive feedback from others using this housing. Also, remember that you will need a +4 diopter to enable to lens to focus on the virtual image the dome projects and therefore make your pictures in focus.

I don't know about the Ike implementation of iTTL, it is possible that it will happen within the next few months. Even if you do get the housing without it, at least you will be able to use it in the mean time. The normal procedure would be to send it back to Ike for the iTTL upgrade once it is implemented.

    HTH

  3. Re "what the main and sub-command dial to housing interface is like on the D70 housing.:

Answer: A separate dial for each command dial. Nominally, the one on the back of the case controls speed and the one on the front right of the case controls f stop. Or you can reverse which does what with the camera menu.

  4. Just to clarify Peter, are you saying that the actual connection between the housing and the camera command dial is a dial mechanism, and not a dial with lever arm attached?[/i]

  5. D70 Housing/Controls

I have had the Ikelite housing and D70 since May. It is a nice housing, works well, easy to access all the controls. It handles well underwater with two strobes attached. Nice ballance.

There are dials on housing to control the dials on the camera. The controls work well for me.

  6. Thanks for all your reply.

Actualy I didn't say something about "connection between the housing and the camera command dial ".

For me is quite difficult to send the housing back to Ikelite to add there the TTL circuitry. I'm not in US. And send the housing from Europe back raises the price of the TTL adding to much.

    I will wait few months.

In the mean time I can still use the 5060 housing from Oly I have thought I hate that crap.

  7. Just in case anyone else was wondering about the main/sub command dial interface (having also used an older Ike film SLR housing with the awkward level implementation), I have received several confirmations from other users (thanks guys) saying that the housing now has a dial to change both aperture and shutter speed more easily. HTH

  8. Guys, how do like the viewfinder on the Ikelite D70 housing? It is possible to see something thru, mainly when do you have a mask?

  9. A larger viewfinder would be nice, but I don't have any trouble composing shots and viewing the camera information in the viewfinder.

All camera controls are well placed and work effortlessly underwater. The rig is slightly neutral with dual strobes.
