  1. Problem with 12-24 and Ike dome

I recibe yesterday the 12-24 lens. this morning I try to use it in the Ikelite dome port (#5503.50)

When I recibe the housing (#6807) i have two zoom and clamp set, one for the 18-70mm (#5509.28 ) and the other with a little diference in the internal pads size that i supose was for the other zoom lens like the 12-24.

    Is it true?

Is the other zoom and clamp set that I recibe with the housing the number #5509.12 for the 12-24?

It dont have space enought for the movement, I cant use the zoom....

Next Friday I go to Maldives and Iwant to use this zoom..... someboby can help me?

Its dificult for me explain this with my poor English, excuse me.... I hope you can understand me.

    Thank you very much.

  2. I have no experience with Ikelite Domes/housings but you might want to have a search in the DSLR forum here - it was stated the zoom ring / lens diameter is simply to big for a zoom gear.

  3. From what I understand, the 12-24 needs the ike part no #5509.12 to operate the zoom. Yours is probably the wrong one.

  4. The Ikelite site recommends #5509.12, a special internal port sleeve with rubber pads, to operate the zoom lens. However I was not successful in getting this sleeve to operate without binding. So I tried the 5509.28 for the Nikkor 18-70 that came with my housing. : I used the plastic assembly with the two springs but I did not use the foam pads that were in the box. It works perfectly.

  5. I have a 12-24 in an Ike dome. Clamp came with the dome but I specified 12-24 when I purchased the housing. Works fine.

  6. sorry, I thought you were reffering to the Sigma 12-24 as you did not state any brand. Now I suppose you mean the Nikon,eh?

  7. The Nikon 12-24mm is wider than most lenses so it needs a special zoom clamp to work. The special zoom clam is described on their website on the port page. This zoom clamp is just the clear plastic cylinder with the gear teeth around the edge and foam on the inside to grip the lens.

This one piece gear replaces the black plastic spring clamp and clear cylinder that you use with other lenses.

The 18-70mm uses a special version of the black spring clamp because the 18-70mm is slightly larger. Using the normal one will cause the gear cylinder to bow into an oval.

My experience is that you neeed the right gear. I tried using the normal gear and the 18-70mm gear on the 12-24 and neither one worked. The plastic clamp is too wide on the 12-24mm and putting it on the gear caused it to deform into an oval and not work properly.

    You need the special gear.

  8. OK! Thank you for teh answers...

UWphotoNewbie tell that I need the right gear and Peter Schulz that is posible to work well with the 18-70 ones..... I only have four dais so I tried the 18-70 one andi if it dont work I must dive with fixed focal this trip.....

    Thanks a lot!

  9. Ok, good luck!

Posty some photos from your trip!
