So far, no... In fact quite the opposite - a few I have asked have said no.

  3. We are looking into converting a S2 housing for testing the S3, the priority will go to how well the camera react underwater in regard with sunball. will keep all posted.

    Cheers

  4. The S3 can be installed in the aluminum back housing Ikelite utilized for the S2. We guessed high camera price and its dTTL strobe requirement would limit interest. I said send it back and my SLR specialist is just waiting to rub my nose in this decision............

  5. Haha, what's a $2,400 camera, for the greater good, right Ike? Darn - I'm sure we would all have loved to see the results with the S3 and the 10.5 fisheye...

    Cheers

  6. The S3, like the D100, has a fastest flash synch of 1/180th. While I'd expect the S3 to comfortably beat the D100 for sunballs - I think it might struggle to match the D70 which can synch officially to 1/500th, and in reality even faster. I'd be interested to hear what Rand thinks on this one.

Even the Nikonos V did a decent job with sunballs with a sync speed of 1/60, and older film cams with 1/125 were just great! If the sensor of the S3 is as marketed, 1/180 should be plenty to freeze the rays!

  8. Hi Kasey,

I agree that Nik V and other film cameras did fine with sun rays.

However, I think what Alex was talking about the possible advantages of higher sync speeds illustrated in this thread.

  9. good. it looks like people are starting to care about this camera. i personally love it and feel it's image quality is superior to my D100.

so if it will fit in the Ikelite housing with the aluminum back, will all or most of the back buttons be accessable for use? i can't wait to get this camera UW and run it through it's paces.

  10. posterization

I’m very happy with digital photograph, mainly with macro photo. When I shot in wide angle (10,5mm) with a brightness sun behind the main object (or without object) I notice a posterization of the blue. I shot with a D100 but I noticed this in every digital shot. I think that the new sensor of S3 will be better in this aspect. What you thing about?

Below an example of posterization (D100)

Another example with Kodak Pro, this shot is not mine then follow this link

  11. Hi Mandrade,

That shot you reference is one of mine that I exposed incorrectly. If I'd had a higher f-stop and had been using full strobe power instead of 1/2 it would have had a better sun.

But it's still a good example of a blown out sunball.

    Cheers

    James

  12. James, your shot is great congratulations and thanks for give me the correct technical name "blown out sunball", but with a correct exposition this problem also occurs with the today digital technology. Do you agree?

    regards

    Mauricio

  13. Yes, I agree.
