Can you count the Mantas??

  1. Can you count the Mantas??

Thought i would share a few shots from here in Yap during the mating season, which is going on now!

Shot these on film, as i know i could get what i wanted with that as opposed to possibly not getting the shot with digital as i am still experimenting with sunbursts and the D70. Besides, a lot easier to clip a Nik V and 15mm to my BCD than an entire housing, whilst having a video camera in my hand at the same time. Believe me, shooting with both a video and still at the same time, one in each hand, does not make for the steadiest video...Had a 28min deco stop during the dive where i got the 11 in one shot, who wants to go up when mantas are travelling in a pack of 25? i could only get 11 in a frame at one time though...need that Sea and Sea 12mm i guess.

Mostly shot at around f8 and 250 i think but am not too sure.

    Enjoy!

  2. And a couple of more that i think are rather dramatic. Getting to dive in a place like Yap everyday does have some great benefits doesn't it?

  3. Argh! (for anyone who's wondering, that is the sound of extreme jealousy)

  4. I remember that dive "Tahiti"Mike in YAP !!!

  5. Arghhh (with James on this one).

    Great sunballs and GREAT mantas!!

  6. Great pics Mike!

I miss that place so much :-((((

    You are really lucky man!

The max I've got is 4 mantas on the same frame with the same Nik V 15mm.

Did you make a commercial video tape/dvd of the place?

By the way ALT + 0169 will give you a nice © much thinner than the Copyright on your pics, and has the same effect!

Send my best greetings to Yap mantas and to Bill! Miss them all.

  7. Are you allowed to swear on wetpixel? The last one is my favourite. Alex

Ho Michel, haven't heard from you in a while. SOunds like things are good with you. Thanks for the tip on the copyright symbol, i'll give it a try. Am trying to make the watermark fairly obvious though as i have been made aware of unauthorized usage of photos from my site, so it is down at the moment until i do that to all photos and try to figure out a way to disable the right click function.

And yes, i have put together a great "Best of Mantas" type of DVD, wouldn't call it commercial but is something i sell to the guests. Will do a more "commercial" product when we hit the slower summer season and have more time to mess around.

If anyone wants a copy let me know! Only $29.95....

Do i sound like an infomercial?!

Good to hear from you, hope you are enjoying your D70.

    Mike

  9. looks great !

  10. Awesome shots!!!!

    Serious jealousy!!!!

and try to figure out a way to disable the right click function.

Mike, disabling the right click is easy, if you do a google you'll find heaps of little java scripts etc that do it for you.

However, as your possibly aware, it wouldn't stop your photos being stolen, for example, if I wanted to quickly get the shot, I'd browse to the page and simply go File > Save as, and pick the shot from the saved file/folder.

Disabling the right click is a help but IMHO, I reckon lower res shots with a watermark are the best option, ie difficult to tidy up after theft, without serious quality degradation.

    Cheers,
