Combination of dual flashes

  1. Combination of dual flashes

    Greetings from cold Switzerland!

I am about to buy an Ikelite housing and flashes for my D70. Considering 2 DS-125's, I wonder if 1 DS-125 and 1 DS50 would also do (even for WA)? Surely the DS50 is weaker, does it make such a big difference? Has someone posted some samples with this combination?

  2. Of course they will work.

But I think it is much easier to control and understand your strobes when they are the same model. If you have 2 125s on 1/2 power and you will get even light. Drop one to 1/8 and its easy to predict what will happen.

Having two the same also gives you some extra redunancy if one goes wrong in the field.

So I would say go for two the same. I have never used a DS50. The DS125 is nice.

  3. Ditto what Alex says :) re: redundency and quality of light....you would also only need a single battery charger instead of chargers for two types of batteriers

The DS50 would also require a manual controller until iTTL is available....the DS-125 works well with the 4 power settings on the strobe

I would strongly recommend 2 DS-125's.....FWIW, as an option, my wife primarily shoots macro and gets great results with 2 DS50's w/ manual controllers
