Hey Guys,
Sometimes luck is the big thing. A year and a half ago at Malpelo (s of Cocos), we saw incredible schools of silkies. I was diving a very trim, easy to use Nik V 20 mm with no strobes, with the little Sekonic meter screwed into the tripod mount. Evidently, manuverability and simplicity sometimes carry the day: the housed boys got skunked, and I didn't.
Well, it turned out those shots (while not technically great) were fairly rare. So they not only got a two-page spread in Fathoms #9 (it's just after the whale shark shots), but just got re-used to illustrate a Stan Waterman conservation column in Fathoms 11. Coulda knocked me over with a feather ...
I go back there this summer ... hoping that the rangers are having better fortune, and that the diving is as extraordinary as last time.
All the best,
Chris/CeeDave
