Komodo Archipelago Adventurer 2 problem

  1. Hi all, we just learned that the ship Komodo Archpelago Adventurer 2 will not be going anywhere due to it being only a drawing, and not an actual ship :D We were going there with Cathy Church, and she luckily found out in time that no such ship actually exists. With her contacts she was able to rebook everyone onto a different ship.

If anyone is going on this ship this year, I highly recommend getting in touch with your travel agent, as you'll be in for a surprise otherwise.

    Regards,

  2. This reminds me of a booking to south America. An airlines stopped flying to the Amazon but failed to tell us. I called and they indeed confirmed that our flight was canceled. This was before we left the states. Our travel agent kept saying, "awwww it's okkkaaaaayyyyy, that flight is still going...no problemmmmmmm!! I had to call her boss to get our tickets reassigned. It is always a good idea to do a little homework on your own, outside of what your travel agent tells you.

  3. Absolutely, the number of times we've been given dodgy info by agents is difficult to count.

  4. Do you know who was the agent was who tried to book Cathy Church's group onto Komodo Adventurer 2?

I know Steve Jacobs (owner of Adventure H2) and Larry Smith (who runs their diving program on the existing Komodo Adventurer) and I can't believe they would have done or said anything that could mislead an agent into thinking their planned second boat is already out there.

I'll forward a copy of this discussion to Steve - Larry is on the boat, which I believe is still in Raja Empat.

  5. I forwarded the traffic, and just received this response from Steve Jacobs, the owner of the Komodo Adventurer:

    >Thanks for sending this to me. I would like it if you could respond with our correct boat name and our web site address. Also my email so that I can receive any complaints directly and to also find out who might be mis-representing a very close likeness to my boats name. Please make it clear that I am happy to hear directly from anyone that has been promised a booking on this boat. My email address is steve@adventureh2o.com and the web site is www.adventureh2o.com.

Cor, I would definitely recommend that you (or Cathy Church) contact Steve about this.

  6. According to Cathy this is a brand new boat, the owners got into financial problems, and the boat was a fantasy on paper, not a reality. (im just quoting here) She probably wasnt the only one that booked it.

I dont know any more details, it was all handled by Cathy and her agent (Poseidon Ventures Dive Tours). Nothing bad about them though, they handled the aftermath as best as they could and got everyone rebooked on another boat relatively close to the original date which I found quite amazing as we're only 5 months away. Im just postings so others can make sure they're not on the same boat.

The boat's name is Archipelago Adventurer 2. That does seem a little too close for comfort to Steve Jacob's boat.

I'll mail Poseidon to get in contact with Steve, although I dont know what they could really say or do.

  7. Cor,

Thanks, this helps explain it. Your first post was titled "Komodo Adventurer 2 problem", and Komodo Adventure is the name of Steve's boat. (The text of your post had it as "Komodo Archipelagic Adventurer 2."

What makes the danger of confusion even greater is that Steve does indeed have plans for a second boat, though I don't know if the name will be KA2 or something different.

Stories like this catch on, and there are probably a lot of people who will see the subject line and never read this traffic. If there's any way that you could edit the title of your original post so that it clearly indicates the correct name of the boat, I'm sure Steve would be very grateful. I haven't done a trip on this boat, but I've been on board and know some of the principals, and my clear impression is that it's a very solid, well-run operation.

  8. Looks like someone already changed it :D Thanks. Didnt mean to confuse anyone. For the record, the boat with the problem is the Komodo Archipelago Adventurer 2. Otherwise there's nothing wrong over there :( Going there myself twice this year (Wakatobi and Lembeh).

If I were Steve though, id still be upset that a boat has such a similar name, in the same region.
